About the Role:The Solid Waste Operator performs manual collection duties and operates rear-loading collection trucks to provide refuse, recycling, and bulk waste services throughout Greensboro.
Key Responsibilities:
- Operate and drive rear-loading solid waste collection trucks safely and efficiently
- Collect refuse, recycling, bulk waste, and uncontained materials from residential service areas
- Follow written and route-based collection schedules and procedures
- Use two-way radios and communicate effectively with team members and supervisors
- Complete daily surveys, vehicle inspections, and operational documentation
- Cross-train and assist with additional duties within Special Services Operations as needed
- Provide excellent customer service while interacting with residents and the public
- Maintain safe work practices while working outdoors and around heavy equipment
Additional Position Details:- Position requires frequent walking, bending, lifting, carrying, climbing, and heavy manual labor
- Requires lifting up to 50 pounds and working outdoors in all weather conditions
- Early morning reporting times and flexible schedules may be required during holidays, emergencies, or operational needs
- Must maintain reliable attendance and dependable communication contact information
- Must obtain and maintain a Valid Class B Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) within 180 days of employment
- Position is NON-EXEMPT under FLSA
