Join our Solid Waste team as a Solid Waste Residential Collection Driver, where your skill behind the wheel and care for the community come together to keep our neighborhoods clean. What Youll Do:

• Drive and operate the truck to collect solid waste, safely making your way through commercial and residential areas, tight container enclosures, and around overhanging wires
• Work the controls to pick up and compact waste, and service household trash and yard debris containers along your route
• Direct the work of Solid Waste Technicians assigned to assist with collection activities, and lend a hand to drivers on other routes when they need it
• Check your assigned vehicles condition and let your supervisor or Fleet mechanics know if anything needs repair or service
• Keep track of your day with truck reports, work orders, and weight tickets, following established procedures along the way
• Pick up or rake any litter scattered during collection, handle flagging and traffic control to keep things safe, and pitch in on training drivers and Technicians when needed

Minimum Training & Experience

• High School Diploma or GED;

AND

• Two (2) years of experience that includes driving or operating vehicles weighing 26,001 lbs. or more.

Necessary Special Requirements

• Must possess a valid Commercial Drivers License (CDL) at the time of application and maintain a valid CDL as a condition of continued employment.
• Must successfully complete the City of Tallahassee Solid Waste Driver Training program for a vehicle type assigned at the departments discretion, within the following timeframes: Within 6 weeks of employment:

Automatic side-loader

Garbage truck (10 wheels, 240 hours)

Semi-automatic rear-loading truck (10 wheels, 240 hours)

Trash truck (240 hours)

Boom truck (240 hours)

Within 2 weeks of employment:

Rear loader truck (6 wheels, 80 hours)

Box truck (6 wheels, 80 hours)
