Basic Function and Distinguishing Characteristics

Under general supervision, performs a variety of duties to ensure safe and proper solid waste site operations and activities; provides information related to solid waste site operations and activities; maintains routine records; and performs related duties as required.

Supervision Received and Exercised

Receives general supervision from assigned supervisory or management personnel. Exercises no direct supervision over staff.

Class Characteristics

This journey-level classification is responsible for independently performing duties in support of the County's solid waste site operations and activities. Positions at this level exercise judgment and initiative in their assigned tasks, receive only occasional instruction or assistance as new or unusual situations arise and are fully aware of the operating procedures and policies of the work unit.

Education and Experience/ Licenses and Other Requirements

Any combination of training and experience that would provide the required knowledge, skills, and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the required qualifications would be:

  • Equivalent to completion of the twelfth (12th) grade.
  • Six (6) months of experience supporting solid waste site operations or a similar environment.
  • Possession of a valid California Driver's License or evidence of equivalent mobility, to be maintained throughout employment.

Supplemental Information

A valid driver's license may be required at the time of appointment and employees may also be required to drive their own vehicle and provide proof of liability insurance as per Vehicle Code VC § 160020. Individuals who do not meet this requirement due to a disability will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis.

This position may require pre-employment drug test, physical examination, and fingerprinting for a background investigation.
