Amentum is seeking a knowledgeable and detail-oriented Solid Waste Specialist to support waste inspection compliance and environmental oversight activities in the Washington DC area. This role is responsible for inspecting a variety of waste disposal and treatment facilities-including municipal waste disposal sites, demolition waste, landfills, sewage sludge disposal locations, agricultural waste sites, and industrial waste treatment operations.

The Solid Waste Specialist also investigates waste-related complaints, evaluates disposal practices, and ensures compliance with relevant environmental regulations to protect public health, natural resources, and surrounding communities.

Key Responsibilities:

• Inspect municipal waste disposal sites, demolition waste, landfills, sewage sludge disposal areas, and industrial waste treatment and disposal facilities. • Investigate complaints related to household garbage, agricultural waste disposal, open dumps, demolition debris disposal, and sewage-related issues. • Evaluate waste handling, storage, and disposal methods for compliance with federal, state, local, and Department of State (DOS) environmental standards. • Document inspection findings, prepare reports, and recommend corrective actions where violations or hazards exist. • Work with facility operators, waste haulers, and regulatory bodies to ensure proper waste management practices. • Support environmental compliance audits and waste-related assessments. • Maintain accurate records, logs, and compliance documentation. • Provide guidance on best practices for waste reduction, recycling, and proper disposal strategies. • Assist in developing or improving solid waste management programs and policies.

Required Qualifications:

• Bachelors degree in Environmental Science, Environmental Engineering, or a related field. • Minimum of 3 years of experience in the solid waste or waste management industry. • Familiarity with relevant waste management laws, regulations, and environmental standards. • Understanding of waste inspection procedures and disposal site operations. • Strong communication, documentation, and problem-solving skills. • Must be able to obtain and maintain a Moderate Risk Public Trust (MRPT).

Preferred Qualifications:

• Experience with municipal waste, industrial waste, and landfill inspection programs. • Prior work experience in government, public works, environmental agencies, or DOS-related facilities. • Knowledge of RCRA (Resource Conservation and Recovery Act) EPA solid waste regulations and local/state waste management requirements. • Certifications related to waste management, environmental compliance, or solid waste operations.

Compensation Details:

$120,000 - $126,000
