DESCRIPTION

This position is considered a Safety-Sensitive position. Applicants who pass the interview process will be subject to drug and alcohol testing.

A SIGN-ON BONUS OF $1000 WILL BE AWARDED TO THE SELECTED CANDIDATE

This purpose of this position is to provide manual labor for the assigned division within the City.

EXAMPLES OF ESSENTIAL DUTIES

Essential Functions:

• Must be able to communicate with others in spoken and written English to ensure the safe and efficient operations of the business.
• Safely performs extreme physical labor for extended periods. Work is performed outdoors under all weather conditions.
• Safety operates tipper and packing system on garbage truck.
• Collects trash from residents and businesses in a professional and timely manner.
• Works with driver and other solid waste technicians to efficiently collect and dispose of trash on assigned route.
• Assists in cleaning and maintaining assigned equipment.
• Operate a vacuum truck during leaf season.
• Assist knuckle boom truck drivers with raking and collecting hand piles of brush and leaves.
• Safely operate other equipment as assigned.
• Wear proper PPE.
• Ascends and descends ladders up to 24 feet high.
• Manipulates both large and small tool parts.
• Follow maps, routes, or other instructions given by a supervisor.
• Cleans and maintains all equipment, tools, and vehicles.
• Responsible for snow and ice removal, salts roads and walkways as needed.
• Respond to natural disasters.
• Participates in on-call and standby duties, which involves working alone or with co-workers at night, weekends, and holidays to resolve situations that occur after normal business hours.
• Performs other work as assigned.

TYPICAL QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements:

• Requires High School diploma or GED equivalent; may be waived by work experience.
• Requires some experience as a manual laborer or closely related experience.
• Must be able to work flexible hours with some weekend, evening, and holiday work required.

Special Certifications and Licenses:

• Must have a valid drivers license.
