Solution Architect
Summary
Our client is seeking a hands-on Solution Architect to own end-to-end platform architecture in support of a growing insurance technology initiative. This is an individual contributor role responsible for setting architectural standards, guiding technical direction, and acting as the final gate for architecture approval across the engineering organization. The ideal candidate is a technologist who still writes code and reviews it - not someone who has moved fully into people management - and who is energized by ambiguity, ownership, and building in a fast-moving, AI-forward environment.
Responsibilities
- Design end-to-end platform architecture spanning front-end, back-end, and data layers with attention to performance, scalability, resilience, and security built in from the start (not bolted on after).
- Serve as the architecture approval gate for the Engineering organization - no code or architecture ships without review and sign-off.
- Conduct senior-level architecture and code reviews across Engineering pods, guiding and mentoring tech leads.
- Drive and participate in a recurring architecture governance forum, challenging proposed solutions on robustness, security, and compliance before approval.
- Evaluate and vet new vendor tools, platforms, and solution proposals.
- Design event-driven architecture and integration patterns across services and data stores.
- Build proofs of concept and prototypes to validate architectural direction.
- Partner closely and communicate directly with business stakeholders, translating technical direction into terms non-technical partners can act on.
- Continuously work hands-on with modern AI-assisted development tooling as part of daily workflow.
Requirements
- Experience architecting and designing complex, end-to-end technology platforms including front-end, back-end, and data integration layers.
- Extensive hands-on experience working on microservices architectures.
- Experience with Node.js and React.
- Experience with AWS (container orchestration including ECS/EKS).
- Experience designing (not just operating within) event-driven architectures.
- Familiarity with relational and NoSQL data stores and Cloud data warehousing (e.g., PostgreSQL, MongoDB, Snowflake).
- Comfortable working with modern AI-assisted development tools as part of a regular workflow.
- Strong communication skills with demonstrated ability to work successfully, directly and fluidly with business stakeholders.
- Demonstrated hands-on architecture and engineering work within the last 1-2 years (not solely in a leadership/oversight capacity).
Preferred
- Experience with insurance or financial services platforms.
- Experience with Kafka or similar streaming/event platforms.
- Familiarity with GitLab, Terraform, or similar DevOps tooling.
