Job Description
The Fountain Group is currently seeking a Solutions Architect III for a prominent client of ours. This position is located in --Rempote. Details for the position are as follows:
OpenShift Virtualization SME / Solutions Architect / VMware to OpenShift Virtualization Principal Architect
Location: Remote – U.S.
Pay Rate: $86.87–$93.07/hr W2
Duration: Through October 2027, with potential extension through year-end
Travel: U.S. travel required, primarily Texas, Missouri, California, and Illinois; occasional travel to Vancouver, Canada. Active passport required.
Job Description
- Lead hands-on VMware to Red Hat OpenShift Virtualization migration programs as the technical SME.
- Develop migration strategies, procedures, and Methods of Procedure (MOPs) for enterprise workloads.
- Execute and validate production and production-like VM migrations and cutovers.
- Design migration approaches across multiple clusters and sites.
- Provide operational readiness support for engineering and operations teams.
- Develop migration documentation, technical diagrams, and knowledge-transfer materials.
- Identify and mitigate technical risks throughout migration activities.
- Support migration automation and standardized migration processes.
Education
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, or related field preferred.
- Equivalent advanced virtualization, Linux, or OpenShift experience may be considered.
Required Skills
- Hands-on VMware to Red Hat OpenShift Virtualization workload migration experience.
- Migration Toolkit for Virtualization (MTV) / Forklift.
- KubeVirt administration.
- Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL).
- OpenShift Virtualization and OpenShift Platform Plus.
- KVM/QEMU optimization.
- OpenShift networking, including OVN, Multus CNI, and vSwitch.
- CEPH and LVM storage technologies.
- VM conversion, including OVA to QCOW.
- DNS and PKI integration.
- Ansible, Python, and Bash for migration automation.
- Production migration cutovers and operational readiness.
- Multi-site virtualization migration experience.
- ACM, ArgoCD, and GitOps in OpenShift environments.
- Active passport and ability to travel within the U.S. and occasionally to Canada.
Preferred Skills
- Experience migrating 500+ VMs.
- Experience migrating multiple OpenShift clusters/sites.
- OpenShift Virtualization Specialist / OCP Virtualization Specialist certification.
- Red Hat Consulting experience.
- Active RHCA or RHCE certification.
- Experience leading enterprise-scale multi-site VMware modernization programs.
