The Sleep Medicine Physician (Somnologist) provides comprehensive evaluation, diagnosis, and management of sleep disorders in adult and/or pediatric patients. This role focuses on improving patient health and quality of life through evidence-based treatment of sleep-related conditions, collaboration with multidisciplinary teams, and oversight of sleep diagnostic testing.
Key Responsibilities
Evaluate and diagnose sleep disorders, including obstructive sleep apnea, insomnia, hypersomnia, narcolepsy, circadian rhythm disorders, parasomnias, and restless leg syndrome
Interpret sleep studies, including polysomnography, home sleep apnea testing (HSAT), and multiple sleep latency testing (MSLT)
Develop and manage individualized treatment plans, including CPAP/BiPAP therapy, oral appliances, behavioral therapy, and pharmacologic management
Provide outpatient clinic consultations and follow-up care
Collaborate with pulmonology, neurology, psychiatry, ENT, and primary care providers as needed
Educate patients and families on sleep health, treatment options, and therapy adherence
Supervise and collaborate with sleep technologists and allied health staff
Maintain accurate, timely, and compliant medical documentation in the electronic health record
Participate in quality improvement initiatives and adherence to accreditation and regulatory standards
Qualifications
Doctor of Medicine (MD) or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (DO)
Completion of an accredited residency program (e.g., Internal Medicine, Family Medicine, Neurology, Pulmonology, Psychiatry, or Pediatrics)
Completion of an accredited Sleep Medicine fellowship
Board eligible or board certified in Sleep Medicine
Active or eligible state medical license
DEA registration or eligibility
