    PART I: SUMMARY OF POSITION

    The SOMOS Club Advisor provides leadership, guidance, and supervision for a student organization designed to celebrate and promote Hispanic/Latino cultures, identities, traditions, and experiences while fostering student belonging, leadership, cultural awareness, and community engagement. The Advisor supports students in planning and implementing culturally relevant activities, events, educational opportunities, and service initiatives; promotes student voice and leadership; and creates an inclusive environment in which students of all backgrounds are encouraged to participate, learn, connect, and contribute to the school community.

    PART II: MINIMUM KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

    A. EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

    • Possession of a Bachelor's degree from an accredited university or college.
    • Employment in this position requires appropriate qualifications and/or employment status as established by the District for extracurricular and co-curricular assignments.

    C. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

    • Knowledge of the purpose and role of culturally focused student organizations in promoting student belonging, engagement, leadership, and positive school culture.
    • Knowledge and appreciation of the diversity of Hispanic and Latino cultures, histories, traditions, identities, and experiences.
    • Knowledge of adolescent development and strategies for supporting student voice, leadership, collaboration, and participation.
    • Knowledge of culturally responsive practices and strategies that promote an inclusive and welcoming environment for students of diverse backgrounds and experiences.
    • Knowledge of applicable State and Federal laws, Board policies, and District procedures related to student conduct, supervision, extracurricular activities, and school-sponsored events.
    • Knowledge of effective practices for planning student activities, cultural celebrations, educational programs, service projects, and community engagement opportunities.
    • Skill in facilitating student-led meetings, discussions, activities, and events while supporting meaningful student ownership and decision-making.
    • Skill in interpersonal communication, active listening, collaboration, and relationship building with students, families, staff, and community partners.
    • Skill in organization, problem-solving, time management, event planning, and managing multiple responsibilities simultaneously.
    • Skill in verbal and written communication, including communicating effectively with individuals and groups from diverse cultural and linguistic backgrounds.
    • Skill in utilizing technology and educational software to support communication, organization, promotion, and documentation of club activities.
    • Skill in creating environments that encourage student participation, respectful dialogue, cultural awareness, and a sense of belonging.
    • Ability to guide students in developing and implementing club goals, activities, events, service projects, and cultural learning opportunities.
    • Ability to foster student leadership by supporting students in assuming meaningful roles and responsibilities within the organization.
    • Ability to work collaboratively and flexibly with diverse populations while adapting to changing student interests, school priorities, and club needs, including responsibilities outside of the regular school day.

    • Plans, coordinates, and facilitates SOMOS Club meetings, activities, events, and initiatives that promote student belonging, cultural awareness, leadership, and engagement.
    • Guides students in developing club goals, priorities, activities, and programming that reflect student interests and the purpose of the organization.
    • Supports student leaders in planning and facilitating meetings, making decisions, organizing activities, and assuming meaningful leadership responsibilities.
    • Plans and supports activities that celebrate and increase awareness of Hispanic and Latino cultures, histories, traditions, contributions, and experiences.
    • Creates an inclusive club environment that welcomes participation by students of all backgrounds and encourages respectful dialogue, cultural learning, and relationship building.
    • Organizes and supports cultural celebrations, educational activities, guest speakers, student presentations, service projects, and other school or community-based events.
    • Develops and maintains positive relationships with students, families, staff, administrators, and community partners to support club activities and student engagement.
    • Collaborates with other student organizations, staff members, and school leaders to coordinate activities and contribute to broader school culture and inclusion initiatives.
    • Promotes student participation in SOMOS through outreach, communication, recruitment activities, and increased visibility throughout the school community.
    • Provides guidance and supervision to students during club meetings, activities, events, field trips, and other school-sponsored functions.
    • Supports students in identifying opportunities for community service, civic engagement, cultural learning, and partnerships with community organizations.
    • Communicates effectively with students, families, staff, administrators, and community members regarding club activities, events, expectations, and opportunities for participation.
    • Assists students in developing promotional materials, announcements, presentations, displays, and other communications related to SOMOS activities and initiatives.
    • Ensures that club activities and events are conducted in accordance with District procedures, school expectations, applicable regulations, and established safety requirements.
    • Manages club-related administrative responsibilities, including activity requests, facility arrangements, purchasing, fundraising, transportation, and other logistical needs, as applicable.
    • Maintains accurate and timely records related to club membership, participation, activities, expenditures, fundraising, and other required documentation.
    • Serves as a positive role model by demonstrating professionalism, cultural responsiveness, inclusivity, respect, leadership, and appropriate interpersonal interactions.
    • Encourages students to develop leadership, advocacy, collaboration, communication, and organizational skills through active participation in SOMOS.
    • Participates in meetings, trainings, and collaborative activities necessary to support effective implementation and continuous improvement of the club.
    • Performs other duties as assigned.
