Responsibilities

Medical Sonographers are specialized medical professionals that use sound waves to image the human body. As patient care specialists must work as both individual-care-providers and as part of a diagnostic-team under the guidance of the Ultrasound Supervisor, Radiologists, Cardiologists, and/or Physician. Performs tasks abiding by policies and procedures, state, and corporate regulations. Sonographer 1 are entry level Medical Sonographers that are training to become Medical Sonographers registered by the ARDMS, ARRT, or CCI. Imaging techniques are dependent on a vast knowledge of human anatomy, principles of imaging, positioning techniques, biology, pathology, patient care procedures, physics, and equipment instrumentation. Participates in all mandatory staff meetings, inservices, and training programs to ensure continued understanding of all departmental policies, procedures, and performance improvement processes.

Qualifications

Education

  • High School Diploma, High School Equivalency (HSE), or Completion of a CHS Approved Individualized Education Plan (IEP) Certificate required

 

One of the following is required:

  • Successful completion of an Allied Health Education Program (this includes but not limited to Diagnostic Medical Sonographer, Radiologic Technologist, Respiratory Therapist, Occupational Therapist, Physical Therapist, and Registered Nurse), and 12 months of full-time clinical ultrasound/cardiac/vascular experience

  • Attending a CAAHEP-approved or CMA-approved ultrasound/cardiac/vascular technology education program

  • Bachelor's Degree and 12 months of full-time clinical ultrasound/cardiac/vascular experience

 

Licenses and Certifications

  • BLS - Current Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Providers by American Heart Association (AHA) required

 

One of the following is required within 1 year of hire or transfer into position:

  • RDMS - ARDMS Registered Diagnostic Medical Sonographer
  • RVT - ARDMS Registered Vascular Tech
  • RDCS - ARDMS Registered Diagnostic Cardiac Sonographer
  • ARRT(S) - ARRT Sonography
  • ARRT(VS) - ARRT Vascular Sonography
  • RVS - CCI Registered Vascular Specialist
  • RCS - CCI Registered Cardiac Sonographer
