QUALIFICATIONS

OB/GYN REQUIRED: Credentialing by American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers (ARDMS) in OB/GYN. Or Registry eligible graduate of a CAAHEP accredited Ultrasound Program to attain appropriate credentialing of specialty within one year from graduation.

Written and oral communication skills

PREFERRED: One year experience in OB / GYN and knowledge of relative anatomy

Cardiology REQUIRED: Credentialing by one of the following Credentialing bodies: American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers (ARDMS) or Cardiovascular Credentialing International (CCI)

Registry eligible graduate of a CAAHEP accredited Ultrasound Program to attain appropriate credentialing of specialty within one year from graduation

Must be credentialed in Adult Cardiology (RDCS or RCS)

Written and oral communication skills

PREFERRED: One year experience in echocardiography and knowledge of relative anatomy

General Ultrasound REQUIRED: Credentialing by one of the following Credentialing bodies: American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers (ARDMS), Cardiovascular Credentialing International (CCI) or American Registry of Radiologic Technologist (ARRT)

Or Registry eligible graduate of a CAAHEP accredited Ultrasound Program to attain appropriate credentialing of specialty within one year from graduation

Must be credentialed in Abdomen [RDMS or RT(S)] and Vascular (RVT or RVS)

Written and oral communication skills

PREFERRED: One year experience in General Ultrasound, and knowledge of relative anatomy

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

Ability to sit or stand for prolonged periods of time

Must possess speech, hearing and sight skills to perform the functions of the position

Manual dexterity required

Must be able to speak, read and write English proficiently

Some lifting may be required

May need to travel from one clinic to another to perform job functions

STANDARDS OF PERFORMANCE

A Sonographer's evaluation will be based on his/her performance in the following areas:

Accountabilities

Performance is up to standard when the Sonographer:

Selects proper technical factors and operates equipment in a safe, effective manner, ensuring established protocol for quality control

Documents and processes reports, organizes CDs or current image storage technologies, organizes VCR tapes/films, reviews finished exams for completeness, assists Sonologist/Radiologist/Cardiologist with viewing and report of exams

Keeps accurate records and statistics of all exams for Quality Control and patient outcomes

Ensures an organized, safe and professional environment

Demonstrates knowledge of anatomy

Uses independent judgment for exam comprehensives

Is informed and knowledgeable regarding new technology

Implements new technology in department

Follows strict OSHA standards in all areas, specifically in regard to cleaning equipment, transducers, along with documentation

Contacts patients and referring providers, Radiologists, and Cardiologists as needed, e.g. results, follow-up, etc.

Performs other duties as assigned by Lead Sonographer and/or Sonologist

Technical

Performance is up to standard when the Sonographer:

Demonstrates clinical competence in using correct processes to provide care to patients and their families

Implements established HealthPartners policies and procedures

Provides support to patients and their families

Documents patient information accurately and completely and keeps records regarding clinical practice

Follows the imaging protocols set forth by their respective department

Shares information with other members of the health care team

Uses interdisciplinary resources to enhance own decision-making

Solves problems appropriately seeking assistance from members of the HealthPartners team

Uses appropriate systems, automated or manual, to obtain patient information and schedule appointments

Education

Performance is up to standard when the Sonographer:

Engages in ongoing evaluation of the effectiveness of teaching in terms of understanding and application

Participates in patient care conferences, in-services and educational programs in the HealthPartners system and community

Develops new opportunities, tools, and methods of learning/teaching

Maintains ARDMS/CCI/ARRT Registration by completing required continuing education

Leadership

Performance is up to standard when the Sonographer:

Serves as a role model in the enhancements of practice and professional conduct

Demonstrates flexibility in performing additional responsibilities to contribute to the improvements in patient care and the functioning of the care unit and other support services

Provides support to professional and technical staff

Formulates and attains personal and professional goals which promote individual growth, the care unit philosophy and the HealthPartners mission

Demonstrates ability to assess and problem solve

Serves as a catalyst for improving standards of practice

Demonstrates positive verbal communication and listening skills with internal and external customers

Performance is up to standard when the Sonographer:

Acts as a patient advocate

Maintains patient confidentiality

Selects and participates in appropriate professional conferences, workshops and continuing education and communities

Participates in and utilizes research appropriate to clinical setting to improve patient care

Remains accountable for the efficient use of time, material and human resources

Assists with the updating of current, and development of new procedures as appropriate

Demonstrates a commitment to the mission, goals and values of HealthPartners
