Operates sonographic and other related equipment and assists

physicians as necessary to complete diagnostic and/or therapeutic procedures

for patients of all ages. Has a thorough knowledge of anatomy and pathology as

it relates to ultrasound imaging. Coordinates patient flow and responsible for

producing quality images efficiently and safely. Mentors new sonographers.

LEVEL OF EDUCATION

Preferred:

  • Graduate from a two (2) year Allied Health Ultrasound Program, accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP) and one (1) year of full-time, supervised scanning as a student sonographer, in a hospital setting.

CERTIFICATIONS, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS

Preferred:

  • 2 RDMS, or 1 RDMS and 1 RVT, from the American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers and 2 years of experience working as a sonographer in a hospital or outpatient imaging center environment, performing general and vascular exams OR1 RDMS, or 1 RVT, from the American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers and 5 years of experience working as a sonographer in a hospital or outpatient imaging center environment, performing general and vascular exams. American Heart Association (AHA) Basic Life Support (BLS).

TECHNICAL REQUIREMENTS

Minimum:

  • General, OB/GYN, Small Part, and procedure assistance experience. Vascular ultrasound experience.

Preferred:

  • General, OB/GYN, Small Part, and procedure assistance experience. Vascular ultrasound experience. One (1) year of non-imaging transcranial Doppler (TCD) training.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, and ABILITIES

All knowledge, skills, and abilities listed indicate the minimum level deemed necessary to perform this job proficiently.

  • Knowledge of possible procedure complications and the ability to respond appropriately. Able to prioritize exams utilizing established department protocols.
  • Strong interpersonal skills that reflect a positive attitude and a sense of commitment to patients, work associates, and community.
  • Able to communicate effectively and professionally with patients, physicians and fellow employees, orally and in writing, pursuant to the CHS English Proficiency and Usage Policy.

YEARS OF RELATED EXPERIENCE

  • Preferred: 1 year, full time, in a hospital setting, preforming general and vascular ultrasound exams, independently, post-graduation.
