Position Summary:
Performs diagnostic ultrasound procedures in one or more specialties for subsequent evaluation and treatment by attending physician.
Service:
Assures patient privacy and confidentiality during testing.
• Assures 100% of sonographic studies. • Assures that a plan of care is implemented for each patient according to written guidelines/specifications. • Incorporates concepts of nursing, psychology and a high standard of medical ethics in evaluating, planning and implementing patient care.
Educates students, sonographers and resident physicians.
• Completes 50% of time.
Provides for patient education, comfort, safety and satisfaction.
• Provides for patient care, safety and needs 100% of the time. • Ensures patients understands procedure. • Receives no justified patient complaints. • Practices department culture of safety, service and passion by maintaining a positive attitude and commitment towards patients and coworkers.
Efficiency and Effectiveness:
Coordinates Ultrasound services with other departments and nursing units.
• Uses effective communication to coordinate with other departments. • Prioritizes work to meet patient needs.
Correlates clinical history with test to be performed and consults with physician if necessary regarding history and appropriateness of exam, recognizing contraindications.
• Completes 100% of sonographic studies.
Maintains professional credentials through continuing medical education, including current BCLS status.
• Maintains current RDMS; RCDS, and/or RVT registration. • Maintains current Radiography registration by the ARRT. • Maintains documentation of internal and external CME activities. • Maintains documentation of current BCLS status.
Provides preliminary reports to the attending and/or referring physician in a timely manner.
• Provides preliminary reports when requested 100% of the time.
Utilizes information system.
• Demonstrates competency with Radiology information system, PACs. • Demonstrates ability to use hospital information system.
Quality and Safety:
Complies with quality control and performance improvement initiatives.
• Reports clear concise information to supervisor regarding service and mechanical needs. • Demonstrates the ability to troubleshoot and problem solve for error and critical situations.
Exhibits concern for self, patient, coworkers and work environment safety.
• Practices established safety guidelines 100% of the time.
Interprets and implements physicians orders independently.
• Follows through with physicians orders 100% of the time.
Makes sure any prior imaging is reviewed and available for comparison.
• Communicates information regarding prior imaging to patients and staff.
Performs diagnostic ultrasound studies independently.
• Performs 99% of exams without repeats due to technical error.
Recognizes and reports abnormalities, instabilities and significant changes in patient condition during testing.
• Reports any patient instabilities or abnormalities 100% of the time.

Position Qualification:
Education:
• Required/Preferred (and/or) • Associates • Associates Degree or equivalent combination of education and training.
Years of Experience:
• 1-2 years preferred • Years of Experience can be related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Has detailed knowledge of three dimensional spatial and cross-sectional anatomy and of common physiological and pathological processes.
BLS:
• Basic Life Support • Certified or eligible for certification by: • American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers (ARDMS), or American Registry of Radiologic Technologists, Sonography (ARRT) (S). • Should obtain certification within twenty-four months of eligibility or cross training.
