Job Summary and Qualifications
What qualifications you will need:

PRINCIPAL RESPONSIBILITIES 

  • Demonstrates knowledge of proper ECG lead placement and troubleshoots system/electrodes sufficient to obtain a tracing good diagnostic quality. 
  • Demonstrates the ability to recognize basic arrhythmias (PVC vs. PAC) and ectopic origin of each.
  • Demonstrates basic knowledge of the ECG complex and ischemic vs. injury patterns. 
  • Performs routine Exercise Tolerance Test via a motor driven treadmill.
  • Performs 2D and M Mode Echocardiography 
  • Performs Cardiac Doppler/Color Flow Doppler 
  • Assists with Transesophageal Echo via system manipulation while probe is passed by physician.
  • Assists with Dobutamine Stress Echo.
  • Identifies upper/lower extremity arterial anatomy. 
  • Performs protocol for upper/lower extremity arterial flow exam. 
  • Carries out physician's orders accurately in performance of diagnostic studies. Reviews chart when feasible to verify orders. 
  • Accepts physician's oral and phone orders according to Departmental policy. 
  • Considers age-related factors and limitations in the treatment and instruction of patients. 
  •  Maintains knowledge of the care of pediatric patients. Considers age-related factors in the assessment, care and treatment of pediatric patients.
  • Maintains patient's right to privacy and confidentiality of information at all times. Confidentiality is demonstrated by limiting patient related discussion to only the appropriate health care workers and avoiding discussions in areas where information may be overheard.
  • Demonstrate understanding of HCA’s and “Patients First” safety initiative by strict compliance to all safety protocols and procedures. 
  • Other duties as assigned relevant to the service. 

JOB REQUIREMENTS: 

LEVEL OF FORMAL EDUCATION REQUIRED: 

  • Required: High School Diploma or GED equivalent 
  • Associate degree in Applied Science or equivalent is preferred.

LICENSE/CERTIFICATION REQUIRED?  

  • RDCS by American Registry for Diagnostic Sonographers (ARDMS) or 
  • RCS by Cardiovascular Credentialing International (CCI) 
  • BLS required per St. David’s policy 

Preferred: CMRT, CVT, Certified Radiologic Technologist, ARRT or working toward registry eligibility.

EXPERIENCE REQUIRED: Employee must be sufficient to function independently in the performance of all diagnostic procedures covered in this job description. One year of experience as a Sonography Tech I is preferred.
