The Grinder Operator is responsible for operating grinding equipment to remove excess material, improve surface finishes, and ensure products meet customer and quality specifications. The ideal candidate will have experience working with metal or manufactured components, strong attention to detail, and a commitment to workplace safety.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Set up, operate, and monitor grinding machines and related equipment.
  • Grind, deburr, polish, and finish parts according to work instructions and engineering specifications.
  • Inspect finished products using measuring tools such as calipers, micrometers, gauges, and templates.
  • Verify dimensions and surface finish requirements are met.
  • Perform routine machine adjustments to maintain quality and efficiency.
  • Identify and report equipment malfunctions, quality concerns, or production issues.
  • Maintain accurate production and quality records.
  • Load and unload materials and finished products.
  • Follow all safety procedures and wear required personal protective equipment (PPE).
  • Keep work areas clean and organized through regular housekeeping activities.
  • Assist with preventive maintenance and changeovers as required.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by management.
Qualifications:
  • High school diploma or GED preferred.
  • Previous manufacturing, machining, grinding, or metal finishing experience preferred.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, work orders, and specifications.
  • Experience using measuring and inspection equipment.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Good communication and problem-solving skills.
  • Reliable attendance and punctuality.
Physical Requirements:
  • Ability to stand and walk for extended periods.
  • Frequent use of hands and arms to handle tools and materials.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds regularly and heavier loads with assistance.
  • Ability to work in a manufacturing environment with noise, dust, and varying temperatures.
  • Ability to wear required PPE including safety glasses, hearing protection, gloves, and steel-toe footwear.
Preferred Skills:
  • Experience with surface grinders, belt grinders, or deburring equipment.
  • Knowledge of metal fabrication or machining processes.
  • Familiarity with quality control standards and inspection procedures.
  • Forklift and overhead crane experience is a plus.
