Job Title: Scrap Yard Hand / Scrap Sorter

Reports To: Yard Supervisor / Operations Manager

Hours: Mon - Fri 8-5
Pay: $15 per hour
Job Summary
The Scrap Yard Hand / Sorter is responsible for sorting, handling, and processing scrap materials in a fast-paced outdoor industrial environment. This role supports daily yard operations by ensuring materials are properly identified, sorted, and prepared for processing or shipment while maintaining a safe and organized work area.
Key Responsibilities
Sort and separate scrap materials by type (ferrous, non-ferrous, aluminum, copper, steel, etc.)
Identify materials using visual inspection, magnets, and basic tools
Assist with loading and unloading customer and company vehicles
Operate basic hand tools and yard equipment safely
Keep the yard clean, organized, and free of hazards
Follow all safety rules, PPE requirements, and company procedures
Communicate with supervisors regarding material quality or safety concerns
Assist with general labor tasks as needed
Required Skills & Qualifications
Ability to perform physical labor for extended periods
Ability to lift up to 50lbs
Comfortable working outdoors in all weather conditions
Basic knowledge of metals and scrap materials (or willingness to learn)
Strong attention to detail
Dependable, punctual, and safety-minded
Ability to follow instructions and work as part of a team
Preferred Qualifications
Previous experience in a scrap yard, recycling facility, or industrial setting
Experience using magnets, torches, shears, or other yard tools
Forklift or heavy equipment experience (not required)
