Overview

Join Microsoft in this amazing opportunity as a Sourcing Engineer II launching innovative and challenging consumer electronics products while developing and executing market leading sourcing strategies. This position provides significant impact and the chance to guide cross-functional teams through complex sourcing activities.

The Microsoft Devices Operations (MDO) group seeks a Sourcing Engineer specializing in components sourcing for the consumer electronics hardware. The successful candidate will manage supplier relationships, oversee negotiations of Product Supply Agreements, and execute associated contractual matters. An ideal candidate will have high ambition to grow with Microsoft and MDO.

We are looking for a candidate with a proven track record of success in dynamic and demanding environments. The ideal individual will demonstrate an ability to resolve challenges through logical analysis, evaluating alternatives, adaptability, strategic planning, and effective communication-essential for guiding cross-functional teams through sourcing activities. Both quantitative and qualitative assessment skills are required to maximize available resources.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and execute a market leading sourcing strategy for the assigned component category via full market knowledge, supplier rationalization, predictable and industry leading commodity pricing plan, and total cost of ownership (TCO) cost modeling through transparent supplier relationship management.
  • Secure components and/or services in the assigned category to support Microsofts technology and cost objectives through effective sourcing and supplier management.
  • Deliver accurate, data-driven cost estimates and projections that can be validated through alternative analyses, critical review, and informed decision-making.
  • Drive change management to continuously improve efficiency and performance via repeatable processes, people growth, and agentic AI development.
  • Business owner of the category and component supplier relationships, including the management and negotiation of contractual agreements and related negotiations and executions.
  • Develop supplier capabilities and drive roadmap visibility across Microsoft hardware businesses.
  • Achieve established commitments on total cost results, supply, quality and compliance adherence, and on-time delivery.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

  • Masters degree in Business, Supply Chain Management, Engineering, Materials Science, or related field AND 1+ year(s) experience in procurement, supply chain, sourcing, engineering, operations, or relevant sales-related roles.
  • OR Bachelors degree in Business, Supply Chain Management, Engineering, Materials Science, or related field AND 2+ years experience in procurement, supply chain, sourcing, engineering, operations, or relevant sales-related roles.
  • OR equivalent experience.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Deep industry knowledge relevant to engineering or manufacturing for the consumer electronics hardware.
  • Demonstrated experience in market analysis to dissect market size, players, customers, growth, technology replacements/forecasts, pricing trends, etc., to formulate sourcing strategies.
  • Experience in delivering best in class total cost of ownership (TCO), continuity of supply (COS), and in building partnerships.
  • Expertise in financial statement analysis to derive should-cost models and cost competitiveness/financial strengths of suppliers before RFx is conducted.
  • Combination of business and technical knowledge base, particularly for assigned categories.
  • Project/timeline (Consumer Electronics Integrated Project Management) adherence experiences.
  • Ability to articulate points of view with executive management but execute plans when directed.
  • Proficient in mastering Microsoft systems and processes, and adept at synthesizing diverse perspectives to drive effective action and execution.
  • Passionate about opportunities to establish new approach to sourcing.
  • Ability to communicate and think strategically to support ideology with facts.

Sourcing Engineering IC3 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $102,100 - $202,200 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $133,800 - $219,200 per year.
