Major Food Group is seeking a Sous Chef to join our team at Torrisi!

Torrisi is an Italian restaurant inspired by the soul, history, and flavors of the surrounding Little

Italy neighborhood and Italian American cuisine, and the most personal effort of Chef Rich Torrisi's career. We prize the highest levels of culinary execution, use our creativity and focus in the service of deliciousness, and bring fresh energy to New York City's dining landscape. Our restaurant is housed within the iconic Puck Building in downtown Manhattan. With vaulted ceilings, incredible artwork, and interior design by Garrett Singer Architecture, this is a grand New York stage which has become one of the most essential Italian restaurants in the United States. Torrisi is at 275 Mulberry Street is a new concept, but it is built on some of the stories and dishes from the very beginning: over a decade ago, just down the block, Chef Rich Torrisi, Chef Mario Carbone, and Jeff Zalaznick rose to prominence with their first-ever project together, the groundbreaking Torrisi Italian Specialties.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Must be able to learn and operate all stations to provide coverage when needed.

Lead and supervise kitchen staff during preparation and service

Ensure all dishes are executed with consistency, precision, and presentation standards

Maintain exceptional sanitation, food safety, and Department of Health compliance

Monitor product quality, freshness, and inventory levels

Oversee proper receiving, storage, labeling, and rotation of products

Utilize systems in place for ordering and tracking waste.

Train, mentor, and develop line cooks.

Enforce kitchen standards, professionalism, and teamwork.

Expedite service while maintaining composure and efficiency during peak periods.

Maintain a clean, organized, and inspection-ready kitchen environment.

Collaborate with front-of-house management to ensure seamless guest experiences

REQUIREMENTS:

Minimum 3-5 years of culinary leadership experience in upscale or fine dining restaurants

Strong knowledge of classic cooking techniques, plating, and modern culinary standards

Understanding of inventory management, food cost control, and labor efficiency

ServSafe Certification or equivalent food safety certification preferred

Strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills

Ability to thrive in a high-pressure, fast-paced environment

Professional demeanor with a strong work ethic and attention to detail

Culinary degree preferred but not required with relevant experience

Major Food Group is coming back full circle to Mulberry St. with the opening of Torrisi, just a few blocks from the original Torrisi Italian Specialties, where it all began. Located in the historic Puck Building, Torrisi, a love letter to Little Italy, proudly presents an Italian-American restaurant with an extensive wine program, a New York-Italian cocktail bar and a luxe deli.
