    The Torrance Unified School District consists of 17 elementary, 8 middle, 4 high schools, 1 continuation, and 1 alternative high school. The District also has 3 adult school campuses. Torrance Unified was established in 1947 and unified in 1948, and is nestled in the heart of the South Bay, in the southwestern part of Los Angeles County. Our District is bordered by the Palos Verdes Peninsula on the south, the beach cities - Redondo, Hermosa, and Manhattan Beach - to the west, and the cities of Lawndale and Hawthorne to the north. The District serves the entire City of Torrance and is governed by five school board members from five trustee areas.     Job Summary

    This Fall, the South Bay Consortium of Wiseburn Unified, Lawndale Unified Elementary, and Torrance Unified School Districts is recruiting a cohort of teacher residents for the South Bay Consortium Teacher Residency. This is an innovative and affordable pathway to a full-time teaching career in our community. Residents earn their Master's Degree and Teaching Credential in just one year through the National University, while joining a supportive, mentor-based program with an emphasis on diversity, social justice, and equity. After the year of residency, graduates receive priority hiring as full-time teachers with the Consortium Districts.

    Requirements / Qualifications

    Eligibility Requirements - Bachelor's degree must be completed by June 2026 - GPA of 2.5 or higher preferred (Applicants with a GPA below 2.5 are still encouraged to apply) - Must be a U.S. Citizen or Permanent Resident

    • Letter of Introduction (Original Ink Signature Required (NO e-signatures accepted).)
    • Letter(s) of Recommendation (Two letters of recommendation written within the last year with original ink signature required (NO e-signatures accepted). )

    Tuition - Varies by degree with a 20% discount from National Program Benefits - $40,000 stipend (Note: Residents are not employees of the school) - Earn a Master's Degree and Preliminary Teaching Credential - Priority hiring for a full-time teaching position at your residency school Available Subject Areas We are currently accepting applications for the following subject areas: - Special Education Mild-Moderate & Extensive Support Needs (Grades TK-12) - Single Subject: Math (English and Dual Immersion) - Single Subject: Science (English and Dual Immersion) - Transitional Kindergarten (TK) - Must have 24 units in Early Childhood Education - Multiple Subject Dual Immersion Spanish (Grades K-5) Residency Locations Candidates will complete their residency in one of the following cities: - Wiseburn, CA - Lawndale, CA - Torrance, CA Key Admissions Dates - Application Window: Opens August 1st and closes September 30th (or earlier if all positions are filled) - Interviews: Conducted on a rolling basis
