Start Date/End Date: March 2027-May 2027

Salary: $3,600.00 Stipend per the SEA CBA (paid at the end of the season based on the payment calendar)

Position Summary:

The Head Tennis Coach is responsible for managing all aspects of the high school tennis program. This includes coaching student athletes in the fundamentals and strategies of tennis, organizing practices and matches, promoting academic success and personal development, and fostering sportsmanship and team spirit. The coach is expected to create a positive, inclusive, and competitive environment that supports the school's mission and athletic goals.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Plan and lead regular practices focused on individual skill development, team play, and physical conditioning.
  • Instruct athletes in tennis rules, scoring, strategy, and proper techniques.
  • Organize and supervise matches, tournaments, and team events.
  • Ensure the safety and well-being of all student athletes during practices and competitions.
  • Promote academic accountability and character development among team members.
  • Coordinate match schedules, transportation, and equipment needs with the Athletic Director.
  • Maintain inventory and oversee proper care of uniforms and tennis equipment.
  • Communicate effectively with athletes, parents, school staff, and administration.
  • Ensure compliance with all school, district, and state athletic policies and eligibility requirements.
  • Encourage participation in offseason training, camps, and tennis-related activities.
  • Serve as a role model and mentor, promoting teamwork, discipline, and respect.

Qualifications:

  • Previous coaching or competitive playing experience in tennis (high school or higher).
  • Strong knowledge of tennis rules, techniques, and match preparation.
  • Ability to effectively teach and motivate student-athletes of varying skill levels.
  • Excellent communication, leadership, and organizational skills.
  • Must meet coaching certification and clearance requirements as set by MHSAA.
