Position Overview
Southmont Junior High School is seeking a dedicated and compassionate Special Education Teacher to support students with diverse learning needs in grades 6-8. The ideal candidate will be committed to fostering an inclusive, supportive, and engaging classroom environment that promotes academic and social growth.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and implement Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) in compliance with state and federal guidelines
- Provide direct instruction in core academic subjects using differentiated teaching strategies
- Collaborate with general education teachers, support staff, and families to support student success
- Monitor student progress and maintain accurate documentation
- Create a positive, structured classroom environment that supports behavioral and emotional needs
- Participate in case conferences, staff meetings, and professional development opportunities
- All other duties as assigned
Qualifications
- Bachelors degree in Special Education or related field
- Valid Indiana teaching license
- Knowledge of IEP development and implementation
- Strong communication, organizational, and collaboration skills
- Experience working with middle school students preferred
