SPA has an immediate need for a Space-Based Sensor & Communications SME.

Responsibilities:

Seeking a Systems Engineering and Technical Assistance (SETA) contractor to provide space-based sensor and communications engineering expertise to support rapid prototyping projects. Projects require integration of compact radar and/or infrared sensor solutions with integrated communications capabilities for rapid emplacement applications. SETA contractor will be responsible for advising program manager and working collaboratively with system development performer to design, build, and demonstrate prototype systems.

  • Lead Integrated Product Team (IPT) activities in the development and test of compact space-based sensor and communications solutions.
  • Perform trade studies and lead modeling and simulation activities to predict sensor and overall integrated system behavior.
  • Understand and communicate theoretical performance of radar systems and sensor processing, fusion, tracking and guidance measurement algorithms.
  • Create and coordinate laboratory test plans, participate in test activities, review test data and documents findings.
  • Support project management by coordinating development of work statement, budget, schedule and other required inputs and conducting appropriate reviews.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to integrate and validate complex DoD systems, advanced weapon systems, and C4ISR equipment.
  • Participate in project reviews, assess contract deliverables, and coordinate with technical review boards on decisions with broad program impact.
  • Maintain cognizance of the program’s adherence to processes in the development, production, and test of system-level and sub-system products.
  • Maintain cognizance over technical activities within project sub-IPTs and ensure horizontal integration of the practices across the project.
  • Review Vendor Integrated Master Schedules (IMS) to ensure product plans will reach delivery times according to the overall project schedule.
  • Work with the Program Management team and chief engineer to understand priorities and drive project execution in alignment with those priorities.
  • Develop presentations, recommendations, and written communications to explain designs to program management and all stakeholders.
Qualifications:

Required Qualifications:

  • Active TS/SCI security clearance
  • Bachelor’s degree in Mathematics, Physics, or Engineering discipline
  • 15+ years supporting DoW operations and/or programs
  • Able to work full-time in a Chantilly VA office within SCIF/SAPF spaces

Desired Qualifications:

  • Advanced degree in electrical engineering, computer science, mathematics, or physics
  • Experience integrating seeker solutions into weapon or missile platforms
  • Satellite development, test, and operations management experience
  • Infrared sensor and/or sensor image processing algorithm/software experience
  • Space system remote communication experience
  • Knowledge of Optical/Infrared sensor phenomenology and performance analysis
