SPANISH LANGUAGE INTERPRETER PER DIEM

JOB LOCATION: District school locations as needed or remotely

HOURS: Flexible part time opportunities based on your availability and student/school community needs

START DATE: as soon as available

PAY RATE: $23.21 per hour

JOB DESCRIPTION: The Per Diem Spanish Language Interpreter will provide essential language interpretation services to the Watertown Unified School District, facilitating effective communication between Spanish-speaking students, parents, and staff members. The interpreter will be responsible for translating written materials and interpreting verbal communication during various school-related activities and events.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES, IN-PERSON AND REMOTE ASSIGNMENTS INCLUDE:

• Translate a variety of documents, including announcements, notices, forms, newsletters, and educational materials, from English to Spanish and vice versa.
• Maintain accuracy and ensure cultural sensitivity in translations to effectively convey the intended message.
• Maintain Confidentiality in all translations per FERPA regulations
• Provide real-time interpretation during parent-teacher conferences, meetings, workshops, and other school-related events where Spanish-speaking individuals are present.
• Facilitate smooth communication by accurately conveying spoken messages between English and Spanish speakers.
• Maintain confidentiality per FERPA regulations
• Support parent-teacher interactions by interpreting during meetings to ensure parents understand their child''s progress and any relevant school information.
• Bridge communication gaps between parents and school staff to foster a strong home-school partnership.
• Demonstrate cultural awareness and sensitivity when translating and interpreting to avoid misinterpretations and misunderstandings.
• Collaborate with other language translators and support staff as needed
• Communicate regularly with teachers, administrators, and other staff members
• Maintain strict confidentiality of sensitive information discussed during meetings and interactions.

QUALIFICATIONS:

• Proficiency in both English and Spanish languages, including excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Experience in translation and interpretation, preferably in an educational or similar setting.
• Cultural sensitivity and understanding of diverse communities.
• Commitment to establish rapport with students, parents, and school staff.
• Flexibility to work per diem, often during after-school hours or during school days.
• Familiarity with educational terminology is a plus.
