Department Leahy Community Health Center Job Purpose

Provides medical interpretation services for patients and healthcare professionals in the Leahy Clinic and assists Administrative Director in planning and implementing steps to improve the quality of healthcare delivered to Limited English Proficiency (LEP) patients.

Essential Duties

Provide in-person medical interpretation services for patients and healthcare professionals

Ensure accurate and confidential interpretation of medical and related informatio

Adhere to clinic policies, procedures, and patient confidentiality regulations

Develop and implement a system to manage scheduling of student and community volunteer interpreters according to patient needs across the various clinics of the Leahy Clinic

Develop and implement training for student and community volunteer translators

Develop and implement plan for integrating technological tools into the Leahy Clinic to increase capacity for language translation, including the development of clear organizational guidelines and clinical workflows for adopted technologies

Provide training on the appropriate use of adopted technological tools for language translation

Develop improved system for scheduling appointments for LEP patients

Translates virtual and written communication and documents for Spanish-speaking patients

Additional Skills Required

Fluency in both English and Spanish

Excellent interpersonal, oral and written communication skills required

Proficiency with basic office productivity software (Email, Microsoft Word, etc.)

Familiarity with technology systems and specialized software used within healthcare settings for language translation services

Minimum Education Requirements

Bachelor's degree in science, language, or human services field required

Preferred Education Minimum Job Experience Requirements Preferred Qualifications

Certification from the National Board of Certification for Medical Interpreters (NBCMI) or Certification Commission for Healthcare Interpreters (CCHI) preferred.

Years of Experience 0 University Classification Paraprofessional FLSA Classification Non-Exempt Schedule/Work Hours Tuesday and Thurdays, plus additional hours on other days of week. Full Time/Part Time Part-Time Annual Schedule 12
