Spanish Speaking Paralegal / Legal AssistantLocation: New York City (hybrid; NYC Metro Area required). This is a hybrid position; applicants must be in the NYC metro area.Immigration Equality seeks a Spanish‑speaking paralegal/legal assistant for our New York City office. The role provides administrative support to our legal staff in immigration matters for LGBTQ and HIV‑positive immigrants.ResponsibilitiesAnswer phone calls and respond to legal assistance requests from clients.Respond to calls/letters from detained immigrants.Maintain client database and update dockets.Copy, file, gather evidence, research, and index country‑conditions materials.Organize and maintain materials supporting asylum applications and supervise volunteers.File papers with immigration court/DHS.Translate evidence and documents into English and/or supervise volunteers on this task.Provide attorney and social service referrals as appropriate.Screen clients for pro‑bono clinics and client intakes.Assist attorneys in preparing client applications and documents.Match clients with pro‑bono counsel.Facilitate communication with clients regarding their cases.Represent Immigration Equality at community events and outreach efforts.QualificationsCollege degree preferred (not required).Highly organized and detail oriented.Expertise with MS Office (Word, Outlook, SharePoint, OneDrive, Excel).Experience with Salesforce preferred.Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to collaborate at all levels.Active learner, patient listener.Commitment to advocating for LGBTQ/HIV‑positive people under U.S. immigration law.Willing to work from the Brooklyn office 2‑3 days per week and remotely the remainder.Spanish fluency required (spoken; written & reading comprehension).Calm under pressure and solutions oriented.Ability to prioritize and multi‑task in a fast‑paced environment.Salary and BenefitsSalary: $50,000 – $55,000.Comprehensive health, vision, and dental insurance (up to 100% premium coverage).Choice of multiple health plans.3% 401(k) employer contribution irrespective of employee contribution.Employer‑paid $10,000 life insurance.Employer‑paid short‑ and long‑term disability insurance.Monthly cell phone allowance.Home office stipend.Paid family leave.Flex‑time schedule options and generous PTO:6 weeks PTO.1 week scheduled time off at year‑end.2 floating holiday days.1 action day for volunteering.Summer Fridays after Memorial Day to Labor Day.EEO StatementImmigration Equality is an equal‑opportunity employer.
