This is an on-site position working from 8:00 am to 5:00 pm Monday through Friday. The pay rate for this position is $28.50 per hour.
Spanish Teacher Job Description:
The Tennessee School for the Blind is seeking a Spanish Teacher to provide standards-based instruction to students who are visually impaired, and who may have other disabilities, on an individual and group basis. The role will consist of instruction in grade level and modified content standards and will utilize the Tennessee State Standards and benchmarks in establishing instructional goals and will provide assessments which measure whether students meet standards. The school will consider all appropriate content certified teachers for this position and will allow time for individuals to obtain a Teacher of the Visually Impaired endorsement.
Spanish Teacher Primary Duties & Responsibilities:
- Perform work associated with standards-based student instruction: prepare lesson plans, adapt instructional materials, develop input for and present daily instructional/learning activities based upon the Individualized Education Plan (IEP) and under the direction of the Principal, maintain a positive classroom environment utilizing appropriate classroom management, keep students on task and engaged in learning.
- Demonstrate knowledge/skill in the areas of data collection, task analysis, progress monitoring, daily living skills, assessment, behavior management, organization/planning, curriculum development, current technology practices relative to students who have vision loss, and parent relations and teamwork.
- Coordinate data collection and reporting.
- Work as part of an education/assessment team responsible for identifying, developing, implementing, monitoring and evaluating individual objectives for assigned students.
- Coordinate effectively with other service staff in providing student instruction, strategic planning, and positively contributing to co-curricular activities.
- Positively serves as a team member and participates in regular team and departmental meetings, school and instructional meetings as required.
- Provide parent consultation; participate in selected parent-focused activities, etc.
- Participate in activities related to professional development and training/workshops as appropriate.
- Plans and/or chaperones on and off campus activities, appointments, programs and field trips.
- Perform other appropriate duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Needed for Spanish Teacher position:
- Knowledge of Tennessee State Standards, program development, classroom resource management, and student/personal scheduling for students with visual impairments, including those with multiple disabilities.
- Knowledge of and ability to assess and apply technology to perform the requirements of the position; ability to effectively utilize a variety of computer software applications, which may include but is not limited to email, internet, word processing, electronic calendar, presentation development, spreadsheet, database, etc.; willingness to stay current and develop skills as needed with or without direct support from TSB.
- Knowledge of and ability to effectively adapt and apply teaching skills, classroom management and lesson preparation to a technology rich environment, which may include but is not limited to on-site classroom, telepresence, and multiple distance education technologies and delivery modes; ability to effectively implement technology necessary to model, teach, and assist students relative to classroom instruction and activities.
- Ability to respond effectively and positively to feedback.
- Ability to work cooperatively with others and participate effectively in a team setting.
- Strong, positive interpersonal skills.
Education & Minimum Qualifications for Spanish Teacher position:
- Minimum of a Bachelor's Degree in Education from an accredited college or university.
- Must hold or be eligible for appropriate educator licensure in the State of Tennessee.
- Subject area endorsement in Spanish, certified or willing to become certified as a TVI within 5 years.
- Selected applicants must verify experience/highest degree held.
- Selected applicants must comply with the State of Tennessee Employee Drug-Free Workplace Policy, and other policies.
- As required by the Immigration Reform and Control Act (IRCA), selected applicant must verify, within 72 hours of employment, his/her legal right to be employed in the United States.
