Compensation:$140,000–$160,000 base + bonus potential
Partner-Level Compensation: Higher based on experience, practice strength, and portable business

The Opportunity

A Chambers-ranked North Carolina litigation firm is seeking an experienced attorney to join its established defense practice at the Special Counsel level. Highly experienced attorneys with established practices or portable business may also be considered at the Partner level.

The firm is well regarded for sophisticated litigation and insurance work and represents local, regional, and national clients in complex matters. This is an opportunity to join an established platform while maintaining meaningful autonomy and direct client responsibility.

Candidates may be based in either Charlotte or Asheville, with a hybrid work arrangement available.

The Role

This is a senior-level opportunity for an attorney who can independently manage sophisticated litigation while maintaining strong client relationships and taking a leadership role on matters.

Responsibilities include:

• Independently managing an active litigation caseload from inception through resolution
• Developing litigation strategy and advising clients on risk and resolution
• Drafting and arguing substantive and dispositive motions
• Managing written discovery and complex legal research
• Taking and defending fact and expert depositions
• Representing clients at hearings, mediations, and other proceedings
• Preparing matters for trial
• Providing case evaluations, reporting, and strategic recommendations
• Collaborating with attorneys, paralegals, and support professionals
• Mentoring junior attorneys as appropriate

Qualifications

• Active North Carolina Bar admission
• Significant civil litigation experience
• Strong deposition, motion practice, and case-management experience
• Ability to independently manage sophisticated matters
• Excellent legal research, writing, analytical, and advocacy skills
• Strong client-facing communication and professional judgment
• Ability to manage multiple active matters and competing deadlines

Candidates with established client relationships, leadership experience, or portable business may be considered at the Partner level.

Compensation & Benefits

Special Counsel: $140,000–$160,000 base salary, depending on experience and qualifications, with additional performance and production-based bonus opportunities.

Partner-level candidates: Higher compensation based on experience, practice, client relationships, and business generation.
