Requirements / Qualifications

Education Specialist Credential, Mild Moderate or Moderate/Severe; Autism Authorization; English Language Authorization, (CLAD or SDAIE) When submitting an application, please submit the CTC version with detailed view of all authorizations and document number. This can be obtained at ctc.ca.gov. If you are internship eligible please include your internship eligibility letter.

Applicants who do not currently hold a Special Education teaching credential may qualify for a Short-Term Staff Permit (STSP), which the District may apply for upon hire if eligibility requirements are met. You may qualify if you meet one of the following: Option 1 - Special Education Experience Verify a minimum of three years of successful full-time classroom experience (or the equivalent in part-time experience) working with students with disabilities. Experience as a Special Education Aide/Paraprofessional is acceptable. Experience must be verified by a letter from your employer and submitted with your application. Option 2 - Special Education Coursework Verify completion of at least nine (9) semester units of coursework in Special Education, or a combination of Special Education and General Education coursework. Option 3 - Subject Matter Coursework Hold a Liberal Studies major or complete 40 semester units Option 4 - Single Subject Major or Coursework Hold a bachelor s degree with a major in a subject that may be listed on a California Single Subject Teaching Credential, or Complete at least 18 semester units (or 9 upper-division semester units) in a subject that may be listed on a California Single Subject Teaching Credential. Option 5 - Subject Matter Examination Verify passage of all required subject matter examination subtests needed to demonstrate subject matter competency.
