SUMMARY OF POSITION

Provides instruction and strategies within a variety of settings to address the academic and emotional needs of students. Leads an educational program for students in an environment favorable to learning and personal growth establishes effective rapport with students to promote positive attitudes of self-worth motivates students to develop skills attitudes and knowledge needed to provide a good foundation for further participation in the total school program in accordance with each students ability establishes good relationships with parents and with other staff members.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Credential - Valid active Indiana Teaching License with Mild Interventions
  • Experience - working with elementary and intermediate school students as well as endorsements in K-6 content preferred
  • Education - Bachelors degree including all courses needed to meet credential requirements
  • Personal Qualities - Highly recommended from student teaching supervisors or other professionals who have observed the personal characteristics scholastic attainment and classroom performance of the teacher
  • Understanding of state and federal regulations and laws serving individuals with disabilities i.e. Article 7 IDEA Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973 the ADA etc.

PRINCIPAL RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES

Provide direct and/or indirect services through a variety of methods to assigned students according to the IEP or ISPParticipate in the case conference committee meeting as the students special education teacherCreate IEPs including measurable goals services accommodations and all relevant areas to address unique student needsRegularly monitor and manage the implementation of students IEP or Service PlansEnsure confidentiality and accessibility of the plans to appropriate and approved stakeholdersInform appropriate and approved teachers and related services providers of their specific responsibilities related to the plans and serves as a resource to all other personnel providing services to assigned studentsDirect instructional aides and paraprofessionals and coordinate their work for the purpose of providing an effective school program according to individual student needsComplete Progress Monitoring of IEP goals and provide to parents on a regular basisServe as a resource for school-based interventions for studentsFollow the criteria established in the Duneland School Corporation Teacher Evaluation PlanProvide learning experiences in accordance with the Guaranteed and Viable Curriculumdesigned by Duneland School CorporationPlan organize and deliver Specially Designed Instruction and interventions to meet diverse needs of students.Maintain awareness of state standards specified in state law administrative regulations or set by the Duneland School CorporationPlan organize and implement differentiated lessons to meet the diverse needs of studentsEstablish and implement clear objectives for each lessonEngage students in meaningful activities to assure student mastery of contentApply Depth of Knowledge strands in instructional strategiesEnter student grades in student information systemCommunicate with building principal about special education issues and trendsConfer with parents and colleagues to address student academic and behavioral needsEstablish and implement classroom rules and procedures to provide an environment conducive to learningAdminister assessments as required by the state of Indiana and the corporationInteract with colleagues parents and students in a manner that is professional and reflect the expectations of leadership within the school and corporationFollow all expectations described in IDEA Article 7 the Duneland School Corporations Teacher Agreement and employee handbookFollow all procedures and expectations established by the building principal and/or corporation leadershipMonitor and supervise students in out-of-classroom activities during the assigned working day. This includes monitoring and escorting students as they change classrooms through-out the buildingShare in the sponsorship of school and grade level activities and participate in faculty committees

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

Equipment This position is required to maintain a working knowledge of all instructional equipment.A basic knowledge of operations for computers and software printers projectors smart boards telephone systems fax machines and copiers is required.

Hours The regular teacher day is eight 8 hours except on those days that teachers are involved in a meeting or plan session called by an administrator or team leader or teachers having a student-parent conference.185 days per year.
