SPECIAL EDUCATION TEACHER - MODERATE TO SEVERE

Job Summary

All special education staff are District employees. Specific location TBD by Director of Special Education. Under the direction of the principal, provide core instruction to supplant general ed instruction.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

• Plan and provide individual and small group specialized academic instruction for District students with disabilities. • Present activities that are developmentally appropriate for the students and are specially designed to conform with the students IEP. • Provide identification, assessment, and remediation to district students with special education needs. • Plan, develop, and implement legally compliant IEPs. • Evaluate student academic and social growth, maintain appropriate records, prepare progress reports, and communicate with parents and staff about student progress. • Observe and monitor childrens behavior and development in their environment, develop and oversee implementation of behavior plans as appropriate. • Plan and coordinate with regular education teachers to ensure classroom success for special education students. • Supervise and train paraprofessionals to work with special needs students within the classroom. • Provide necessary staff development at your site. • Provide training for parents to develop a partnership between student, school, and home to ensure the success of the special needs student and to help parents understand the special needs of their children. • Assist parents to seek and coordinate other services in their community that may be provided to their children by various agencies such as Regional Center. • Supervise students in and out of the classroom. • Attend staff meetings and participate in in-service education workshops provided by the school, the District, the SELPA, or other self-selected professional growth activities. • Perform other related duties as assigned.

EQUALIFICATIONS REQUIREMENTS

  1. Valid California Special Education teaching credential, moderate to severe, or active enrollment in a university intern program.
  2. Other valid California Teaching Credentials for core content instruction as mandated by NCLB.
  3. Authorization to work with English Language Learners, such as CLAD Certification.
  4. Legal authorization to work in the U.S.
  5. Ability to work cooperatively with other staff members.
