Role and Responsibilities
- Works with individual students or small groups of students to reinforce learning or material or skills initially introduced by the teacher.
- Assists the teacher in devising special strategies for reinforcing materials or skills based on a sympathetic understanding of individual students, their needs, interests and abilities.
- Provide instructional support to students with disabilities in the resource room under the direction of a special education teacher.
- Implement accommodations and modifications as outlined in students' IEPs.
- Support students with assignments, homework, study skills, organization and time management.
- Facilitates learning and other hands-on activities.
- Keeps documentation or logs according to program needs.
- Assist with behavior management plans and promote positive social interactions among students.
- Supervise students during classroom transitions, testing and other school activities as assigned.
- Maintain confidentiality of student records and information in accordance with district policies and federal regulations.
- Assist with assessment activities, data collection, and progress monitoring.
- Support students in developing self-advocacy, communication and life skills.
- Perform other duties as requested by the building administrator or designee.
Qualifications and Education Requirements
Must fulfill "Highly Qualified' Federal Requirements
Minimum of High School Diploma or equivalent
Two years (60 credit hours) or Associate's degree from an accredited collegiate institution.
OR Pass a state approved paraprofessional assessment (ETS Parapro Assessment)
Experience working with special education students is preferred
Work Schedule and Rate of Pay
7.25 hours/day, 40 weeks/year (follow student schedule)
Pay according to Collective Bargaining Agreement
Starting hourly rate $18.91
