    Job Description

    Position Summary: We are seeking a highly motivated, compassionate, and dedicated part-time Special Education Aide to join our team and support students with disabilities in grades 6-8. The Special Education Aide will work under the direct supervision of a certified Special Education Teacher and/or other school administrators to provide individualized support, facilitate inclusion, and assist in the implementation of Individualized Education Programs (IEPs). This role is crucial in helping our students achieve their full potential and experience success within the general education and special education settings.

    Key Responsibilities:

    Student Support:

    • Provide direct academic and behavioral support to individual students or small groups of students with diverse learning needs in various educational settings (e.g., general education classroom, resource room, pull-out) during assigned hours.
    • Assist students with classroom assignments, organizational skills, and study habits.
    • Implement accommodations and modifications as outlined in student IEPs.
    • Support students with personal care needs (if applicable and specified in IEPs, with appropriate training).
    • Facilitate positive social interactions and promote appropriate behavior.
    • Assist with the implementation of behavior intervention plans under the guidance of the special education teacher.

    Classroom Assistance:

    • Prepare and organize instructional materials, visuals, and adaptive equipment.
    • Assist the teacher with classroom management and maintaining a positive learning environment.
    • Supervise students during non-instructional times (e.g., lunch, recess, transitions) as assigned within the part-time schedule.
    • Collect data on student progress and behavior as directed by the special education teacher.

    Collaboration and Communication:

    • Work collaboratively with special education teachers, general education teachers, therapists (e.g., speech, occupational, physical), and other school staff.
    • Maintain confidentiality of all student information.
    • Communicate effectively and professionally with staff, students, and parents/guardians as directed by the special education teacher.
    • Participate in staff meetings, professional development, and training sessions as required, which may occasionally fall outside regular assigned hours.

    Other Duties:

    • Perform other related duties as assigned by the Special Education Teacher, Principal, or other designated administrator.
