Special Education & Student Transport Instructional Assistant

We are looking for a dedicated Special Education Instructional Assistant to join our team in a dual-impact role. You will play a critical part in the student experience, serving as both a classroom mentor and a safety advocate during transportation. This role is designed for someone who is physically active, detail-oriented, and committed to the success and well-being of students with special needs.

Key Responsibilities

  • Instructional & Vocational Support: Provide direct instructional, vocational, and developmental assistance to students as prescribed by supervising teachers or licensed professionals.
  • Mobility & Transfer Assistance: Assist students with arrival and departure by safely transferring individuals from wheelchairs and monitoring entrance conditions to ensure a smooth transition into learning areas.
  • Transportation Safety: Monitor student conduct during mid-day transportation to maintain a safe and orderly environment at all times.
  • Specialized Equipment Operation: Partner with bus drivers to manage the safe loading and unloading of students. This includes the operation of specialized equipment such as wheelchair lifts, tie-downs, seat belts, and infant/toddler seating.
  • Student Monitoring: Maintain a high level of alertness regarding the physical and emotional well-being of students during all transitional periods of the school day.

Qualifications

  • Experience: Prior experience working with individuals with special needs is preferred.
  • Physical Requirements: Ability to perform physical transfers and operate specialized mobility equipment (lifts, tie-downs, etc.).
  • Communication: Strong interpersonal skills to effectively collaborate with teachers, bus drivers, and professional staff.
