    Job Description

    JOB GOAL:

    Under the supervision of the school principal, with assistance from school-based facilitator/administrators, the Behavior Intervention Assistant serves the educational needs of disadvantaged youth and "at-risk" students as assigned, providing specialized assistance to students and educators - addressing social, economic, and academic needs of students experiencing school behavior problems, parent/child conflicts, runaway, truancy, classroom paraprofessional duties, etc. This position seeks to resolve issues at the earliest possible level and in the least stigmatizing way.

    TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:

    9.25 month (190 days) contract, Schedule 804 - Range 108 - plus benefits package. NOTE: Precise placement within the salary range will be determined based upon experience and education. FLSA: Non-Exempt

    QUALIFICATIONS:

    • Education and/or Experience: Associate Degree or at least 60 college hours required. Bachelor's Degree is preferred. Must have at least three years of full-time paid experience in a public school or youth-service agency regarding the implementation of positive behavior interventions and educational programming for students with behavioral needs.
    • Computer and Language Skills: Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to use a computer and write simple correspondence. Ability to present information in one-on-one and small group situations. Ability to effectively communicate orally.
    • Customer Service Skills: Must be capable of interacting effectively with administrators, teachers, staff members, students, parents, and the general public using tactful and helpful customer service.

    ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

    • Reinforce instruction to individuals or small groups of students as directed.
    • Provide Safety Care/De-Escalation Training for LRSD staff
    • Uphold and enforce school rules, administrative regulations, and state and local board policies.
    • Provide assistance and support to staff in maintaining effective management of student behavior.
    • Serve as liaison for classroom teachers, school psychologists, and administrative staff.
    • Assist in organizing activities to promote a positive school climate: supervising conflict resolution sessions with students, motivating parents to become active supporters of school programs, as well as active participants regarding individual student's programs, and answering parental questions, as appropriate.
    • Maintains professional and cooperative contacts with families of the assigned students, staff, and members of the public.
    • Perform other related youth services as assigned.

    Mental Functions, Physical Requirements, and Working Conditions:

    While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit, stand, walk, go up and downstairs, operate foot and hand controls, use a telephone, and write. Occasionally the employee must lift and move up to twenty (20) or more pounds. In addition, this position requires accurately perceiving sound, near and far vision, depth perception, handling and working with educational materials and objects, and providing oral information. Must have the ability to work for the duration of the daily contracted time and be physically present and at assigned work, with only infrequent unexcused absences, during the contract year. Additional technical skills, knowledge, and abilities may be recommended by the immediate supervisor and approved by the Human Resources Director.
