White Settlement ISD is seeking a compassionate, collaborative, and student-centered Special Education Counselor on a 202 day work calendar to provide counseling services, behavioral support, transition planning, and case management for students receiving special education services. This position works closely with campus administrators, special education staff, families, and outside agencies to support students'' academic, social-emotional, behavioral, and post-secondary success.
The ideal candidate is passionate about building relationships, advocating for students, and helping remove barriers that impact learning and successful transitions.
Primary Responsibilities
Provide individual and small group counseling services for students receiving special education services.
Collaborate with teachers, administrators, related service providers, and families to develop interventions that support student success.
Participate in Admission, Review, and Dismissal (ARD) meetings and assist with transition planning.
Support students with behavioral, emotional, and social needs through proactive interventions and crisis response.
Assist campuses in implementing behavior intervention plans and social-emotional supports.
Coordinate services with community agencies and outside providers when appropriate.
Provide consultation to campus staff regarding student mental health, behavior supports, and special education services.
Assist in planning successful transitions between campuses and programs, including post-secondary transition planning.
Maintain required documentation in accordance with federal, state, and district requirements.
Support district initiatives that promote inclusive practices and positive student outcomes.
Perform other duties as assigned by the Director of Special Education.
Qualifications
Required
Master''s degree in School Counseling, Counseling, Social Work, Psychology, or related field.
Valid Texas School Counselor Certificate or other appropriate Texas licensure.
Experience working with students with disabilities.
Knowledge of IDEA, Section 504, and special education procedures.
Strong interpersonal, organizational, and communication skills.
Preferred
Experience participating in ARD committees.
Experience with behavior intervention planning.
Knowledge of transition services for secondary students.
Experience collaborating with outside agencies and families.
Crisis intervention experience.
