Position Overview: We are seeking a dedicated and passionate Elementary Special Education Teacher to join our team. The ideal candidate will provide specialized instruction and support to students with disabilities, fostering an inclusive learning environment and helping them achieve their academic, social, and emotional goals. This role requires collaboration with colleagues, families, and service providers to ensure student success and compliance with individualized education plans (IEPs).
Responsibilities:
Instructional and Academic Support:
Design and deliver engaging, individualized lessons aligned with IEP goals and the general education curriculum.
Modify teaching strategies and materials to meet diverse learning needs.
Integrate technology and assistive devices to enhance student learning and accessibility.
Progress Monitoring and Assessment:
Regularly assess student performance through observations, data collection, and formal evaluations.
Monitor progress toward IEP goals and adapt teaching methods as needed.
Prepare and present progress reports and participate in IEP meetings to discuss student development.
Classroom Management and Student Support:
Create a safe, supportive, and inclusive classroom environment.
Implement behavior intervention plans (BIPs) using positive reinforcement techniques.
Provide one-on-one and small-group instruction to address individual learning needs.
Collaboration and Communication:
Work closely with general education teachers, paraprofessionals, and service providers to ensure student success in inclusive settings.
Collaborate with families, guardians, and IEP teams to set and achieve student goals.
Maintain regular communication with parents and guardians to provide updates and address concerns.
Compliance and Documentation:
Develop and maintain accurate and up-to-date IEPs, ensuring compliance with state and federal regulations.
Document student attendance, grades, and behavior as required by school policy.
Stay informed about current special education laws, policies, and best practices.
Professional Development:
Participate in ongoing training, workshops, and professional learning communities.
Contribute to school-wide initiatives and support a culture of continuous improvement.
Experience:
Prior experience teaching students with disabilities at the high school level preferred.
Familiarity with IEP development, progress monitoring, and inclusion strategies.
Skills and Abilities:
Strong instructional, organizational, and time management skills.
Ability to differentiate instruction and manage a diverse classroom effectively.
Proficiency with assistive technology and tools used in special education.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
