ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Assist special education teacher in the classroom with activities, as well as classroom and material
preparation in one-on-one and small group situations. May be asked to assist other special education
students. This assistant also works with other special education students. Supervise student
transportation by riding the school bus or driving a District van. Other duties as assigned by the
administrator.
PROGRAM DESCRIPTION;
The Hope Transition Program special education placement is designed for elementary
students needing intensive support in functional, social, and behavioral skills. The goal is to
further develop skills in order to transition students to a cross-categorical setting within,
where they can continue progressing in a less restrictive environment.
Primary Focus Areas:
Classroom Functioning Skills: Emphasis on teaching classroom functioning skills,
which is the primary responsibility of the special education teacher.
Safety Needs: Addressing any safety concerns that may arise for students.
Functional Communication Skills: Supporting students in developing language and
functional communication skills essential for their participation in general education
settings.
Regulation and Coping Skills: Teaching and supporting sensory regulation and coping
strategies for students to engage successfully in general education.
Collaboration: Fostering intentional collaboration between regular education and
special education teachers to facilitate students' access to the general education
curriculum.
