Summary:
The 1:1 Special Education Aide provides individualized support to a student with special needs to help them access and participate fully in the school environment. "1:1" means that the aide works directly with one specific student, offering assistance tailored to that student's learning, behavioral, and physical needs as outlined in their Individualized Education Program (IEP).
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Provide academic, behavioral, and/or physical support to the assigned student throughout the school day.
Assist the student in following classroom routines and completing assignments under the direction of the classroom teacher or special education staff.
Support the student in developing independence, communication, and social skills.
Implement accommodations, modifications, and behavior support plans as directed by certified staff.
Maintain confidentiality and professionalism when working with students and staff.
Monitor and record student progress and share observations with the supervising teacher.
Assist with personal care needs as required (e.g., mobility, toileting, feeding).
Qualifications:
High school diploma or equivalent (Associate's degree or higher preferred).
Experience working with children, particularly those with disabilities, preferred.
Ability to follow teacher direction and work as part of a collaborative educational team.
Strong communication, patience, and problem-solving skills.
This is a 5.5 hour a day position with a 1/2 hour unpaid lunch.
