JOB DESCRIPTION: The Special Education Instructional Coach will provide instructional support and coaching to special education teachers as they work to implement the curriculum and specially designed instruction.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Provide instructional coaching in all academic areas which includes student-centered observation-feedback cycles with individual teachers focused on improving student outcomes through effective instruction and assessment Facilitate reflection and problem solving with teachers Collaborate with teachers and provides specific strategies for improved instructional delivery with research-based instructional strategies and interventions to improve achievement for all students Assist teachers with implementation of Tier 3 interventions Co-teach and/or model lessons as needed to support teacher development

Support teachers in understanding, analyzing and utilizing data to support equitable student access to learning Establish a culture that uses student data regularly to improve instructional practices Build teacher capacity in effectively using formative data to inform instruction Cultivate a standards-based, data and results-oriented culture Collaborate and/or facilitates the analysis of interim and formative assessment data that informs instructional planning

Supports teachers in reviewing curriculum to identify ways to provide access for students with disabilities Support teachers in the development of strong and compliant IEPs Review and provides feedback on teacher-developed lesson plans, unit plans and assessments

Attend district professional development sessions that happen both within and outside of regular school hours Turnkey professional development to teachers during before or after school professional development times or during Collaborative Planning Time Build the capacity of teachers to support the improvement of student outcomes Collaborate with master teachers and principals in determining appropriate resources and support for teachers Lead teacher study groups to increase content and pedagogical knowledge as needed Coordinate with stakeholders and the leadership team as necessary to support teacher development and student growth Maintain records of teacher support and submits to supervisor at requested intervals to document quantity, duration and type of teacher support Complete any additional duties as assigned by the Director of Special Education

QUALIFICATIONS: Bachelor's degree in special education and/or general education with special education certification or background/experience (master's preferred) Valid Alabama Teacher Certification Minimum 10 years' experience in special education Experience as a Lead Special Education Teacher (preferred) Proficient in Microsoft Office and has exceptional project management and data analysis skills Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and written Thorough knowledge of current trends and developments in special education Strong understanding of federal and state special education rules, regulations, and practices Ability to effectively allocate and prioritize time to several tasks to ensure completion of all. Employment experience gained in the private employment sector may be considered when filling specified positions, which are not traditionally in the education field, but include specialized training or certifications.
