POSITION OVERVIEW:
We are seeking a positive, student-centered individual to assist in both academic and non-academic settings. This role supports students and teachers in a variety of ways to help ensure a safe, inclusive, and productive learning environment.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: (may include any of the following)
- Will assist in instructional activities and supervision of students in a structured (regular education classes) and unstructured (lunchroom, playground, field trips, bus) environment.
- Will assist in behavior management strategies and consequences, and may assist with self-help skills.
- Other duties as assigned by the administrator or teacher. Recess coverage may also be involved.
Other Details
- High School diploma or equivalent.
- Dependable work record is a must.
- Positive and friendly work attitude.
- Must have DPI Spec. Ed. Program Aide certification or be willing to become certified. A short-term substitute license would also be sufficient.
- Ability to get along and communicate well with staff, students, and parents.
- Ability to work with a minimum amount of supervision.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality.
Responsibilities:
- Provide support and assistance to students in math, literacy, and other academic subjects.
- Collaborate with teacher to create and implement individualized lesson plans.
- Assist with maintaining a safe and nurturing environment.
- Support students social-emotional development through positive reinforcement and behavior management strategies.
Skills:
- Patience and empathy when working with students who have special needs.
- Knowledge of special education practices and techniques for supporting students with diverse learning needs.
