POSITION OVERVIEW: We are seeking a positive, student-centered individual to assist in both academic and non-academic settings. This role supports students and teachers in a variety of ways to help ensure a safe, inclusive, and productive learning environment.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: (may include any of the following)

  • Will assist in instructional activities and supervision of students in a structured (regular education classes) and unstructured (lunchroom, playground, field trips, bus) environment.
  • Will assist in behavior management strategies and consequences, and may assist with self-help skills.
  • Other duties as assigned by the administrator or teacher. Recess coverage may also be involved.

Other Details

  1. High School diploma or equivalent.
  2. Dependable work record is a must.
  3. Positive and friendly work attitude.
  4. Must have DPI Spec. Ed. Program Aide certification or be willing to become certified. A short-term substitute license would also be sufficient.
  5. Ability to get along and communicate well with staff, students, and parents.
  6. Ability to work with a minimum amount of supervision.
  7. Ability to maintain confidentiality.

Responsibilities:

  • Provide support and assistance to students in math, literacy, and other academic subjects.
  • Collaborate with teacher to create and implement individualized lesson plans.
  • Assist with maintaining a safe and nurturing environment.
  • Support students social-emotional development through positive reinforcement and behavior management strategies.

Skills:

  • Patience and empathy when working with students who have special needs.
  • Knowledge of special education practices and techniques for supporting students with diverse learning needs.
