Role and Responsibilities

  • Provides assistance and support to the students with personal care needs such as behavior redirection, toileting, lifting or dressing, etc.
  • Able to effectively present a re-teaching of a lesson to a single student or small group of students.
  • Supervise students before and after class/lunch.
  • Keep students on task during instruction activities, maintaining consistency throughout the day.
  • Assist teachers in implementing Individual Education Plan (IEP) goals and behavior plans such as: self-help skills, socialization, language development, toilet and hygiene training, personal care duties, and behavior management.
  • Collaborate with the IEP team and use best practice interventions to assist students.
  • Follow through with teacher directed classroom management plans and behavior intervention plans.
  • Accompany students during time in the hallway and on the playground.
  • Interact with students on an ongoing and consistent basis.
  • Maintain confidentiality.
  • Keep records and data as required by the program.
  • Physically able to lift 50 pounds.
  • Perform other duties as requested by the building administrator or designee.

Qualifications and Education Requirements

Minimum of High School Diploma or equivalent

Preferred: Two years (60 credit hours) or Associate's degree from an accredited collegiate institution.

OR Pass a state approved paraprofessional assessment.

Experience working with special education students is preferred.

Work Schedule and Rate of Pay

7.25 hours/day, 40 weeks/year (follow student schedule)

Pay according to Collective Bargaining Agreement

Starting hourly rate $18.91
