The Special Education Paraprofessional will work as directed by the assigned classroom teacher to work closely with students to provide individualized attention, assist with classroom management, and support various educational activities and administrative tasks.
This is a grant funded position for the 2026-2027 school year. This position ends May 21, 2027 with no guarantee of employment beyond this date.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
The following duties are normal for this position. The omission of specific statements of the duties does not exclude them from the classification if the work is similar, related, or a logical assignment for this classification. Other duties may be required and assigned.
Assist students, teachers, and others as directed
Assisting students with toileting, feeding, and any other special needs
Administer, score, and record such achievements and diagnostic tests as recommended by the teacher
Operate and care for equipment used in the classroom for instructional purposes
Distribute and collect workbooks, papers, and other materials for instruction
Assist with the supervision of students during emergency drills, assemblies, play periods and field trips
Check notebooks, correct papers, and supervise testing and makeup work as assigned
Work with individual students or small groups of students to reinforce learning of material or skills
Know and follow all safety rules and procedures associated with the responsibilities of the position
Establish and maintain satisfactory, respectful working relationships within the school environment
Ability to lift and carry loads up to 50 pounds
Ability to move around well enough to perform the duties of the position safely.
Successfully participates in required training
Certification in crisis management procedures as required by school
Exemplary in person attendance required
Performs other duties as assigned by the supervising teacher and/or school principal
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Highly Qualified Status
The NO CHILD LEFT BEHIND (NCLB) guidelines require that paraprofessionals (educational assistants) who provide instructional services must have fulfilled one of the following to meet the highly qualified requirements
a. Obtained an associate?s or higher degree; or
b. Completed two years of study at an institution of higher education; or
c. Passed a test that demonstrates knowledge of and the ability to assist in the instruction of reading, writing, and mathematics
Two years? experience working with children
Strong verbal, presentation and interpersonal skills
Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Superintendent may find appropriate and acceptable

ADA COMPLIANCE:
Physical Ability: Tasks require the ability to exert light physical effort in sedentary to light work, but which may involve some lifting, carrying, pushing and/or pulling of objects and materials of light weight (up to 50 pounds). Tasks may involve extended periods of time at a keyboard or workstation.
Sensory Requirements: Some tasks require the ability to perceive and discriminate visual cues or signals. Some tasks require the ability to communicate orally.
Environmental Factors: Performance of essential functions may require exposure to adverse environmental conditions, such as rude/irate customers.
