JOB SUMMARY
This position supports parents and families of students with disabilities by providing educational resources and networking opportunities. The role fosters collaborative partnership among parents, educators, community agencies, and other stakeholders to empower families as they navigate the special education process.
This is a Grant Funded Position through Georgia Department of Education.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
- Demonstrates prompt and regular attendance
- Develop communication to introduce the program to schools, communities, and agencies
- Maintains a website for parents of students with disabilities, including resource links
- Arrange meetings with families and relevant personnel
- Coordinates delivery of presentations on topics related to students with disabilities
- Develops and provides educational opportunities for parents
- Attends statewide and metro area parent mentor meetings
- Meets with parent mentor liaisons as needed
- Performs other duties as assigned
MINIMUM EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
High School Diploma or GED required; Bachelor's degree preferred, must be a parent of a child with a disability who is currently receiving or has previously received special education and related services through an IEP (per GDOE qualifications).

- Proficient in written and oral communication
- Skilled in computer operation
- Ability to work effectively with parents, school personnel, community members, and community agencies
- Ability to be flexible in situations relative to daily routines. Ability to demonstrate sensitivity to the differences among diverse populations.
- Ability to maintain workflow and thought processes in the presence of frequent distractions.
- Ability to ignore irrelevant sights or sounds and intrusive thoughts or stimuli. Ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously with only few or no errors.
- Ability to produce quality work when short or unexpected deadlines are presented.
- Ability to adjust work processes without incident when new and unexpected directions are given relative to a project that may be in process.
- Ability to maintain composure and not compound a situation when interacting with stakeholders.
- Ability to complete work tasks without being given procedure directions relative to works steps or the final project.
- Ability to recognize errors or layout features that detract from the physical attractiveness or accuracy of a work product.
