Special Education Program Support Teacher- Secondary Schools
Program Support Teacher will serve as a liaison and support for special education and
general education teachers, support staff and principals. The primary responsibility of
the Program Support Teacher (PST) is to assist with the effective implementation of the
Individual Education Programs (IEPs) for special education students.
Evaluation/Assessment
Manage administration of and assist with district assessments and individual assessments
Serve as the LEA and/or member of the IEP Team as assigned
Review Evaluation Team recommendations
Assist in IEP development and implementation
Provide assistance to ensure the least restrictive most appropriate educational program for all students
Provide additional assistance as assigned
Case Manage Students in Alternate Placements
District/Building/Classroom Support
Assist educators in developing and adapting programs to provide quality comprehensive instruction for students
Assist in planning and implementation of inclusive education efforts
Assist staff with conducting functional behavioral assessments, developing behavior support plans, and program design
Serve as liaison with other agencies involved in programming for individual students as assigned
Assist in development of student transition across the 5th grade -Middle School settings and from alternative setting (PEER) back to neighborhood middle/high school
Analyze student data trends (referrals, suspension rates, progress monitoring) to identify gaps in the secondary service delivery model
Liaise between the district office, building leadership, and external alternate placement providers
Professional Development
Lead/assist providing in-service training for special and general educators
Lead/assist in providing in-service training for support staff Instructional/Technical Support
Assist in selection of instructional materials/equipment to educators and support staff working directly with students
Preview new materials/equipment/software
Demonstrate curricular materials to educators and support staff working with students for implementation of IEPs
Conduct follow-up sessions to discuss effectiveness of materials
Review instructional materials as needed
IDEA Compliance
Review changes/updates in process and procedures with special educators
Assist in maintenance of pupil behavioral records
Review IEPs for due process compliance
Other duties as assigned
