Applications are being accepted for the Special Education Teacher: Resource Room Teacher with Bloomfield Hills Schools. This is a Bloomfield Hills Education Association ("BHEA") bargaining unit position.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

Valid Michigan Teaching Certificate K-12 with certification in Special Education

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

• Design and implement individualized instructional programs that meet the unique needs, interests, and abilities of students receiving Level 4 special education supports

• Create and maintain a developmentally appropriate, structured, and supportive learning environment conducive to student growth

• Utilize district-approved technology and maintain proficiency to support instructional and administrative responsibilities

• Plan, schedule, attend, and conduct Multidisciplinary Evaluation Team (MET) and Individualized Education Program Team (IEPT) meetings within state and district timelines

• Align instruction and intervention strategies with individualized education program (IEP) goals and objectives

• Monitor student progress regularly and provide timely, data-informed progress reports to parents and the educational team

• Establish and maintain positive, collaborative relationships with families to support student success

• Demonstrate ability to effectively teach students with autism, cognitive impairments, emotional impairments, and those requiring high levels of behavioral support

• Implement IEPs and BIPs with fidelity, using data-driven practices and appropriate accommodations and modifications

• Collaborate with general education teachers and ancillary staff to develop inclusive and effective programming for students with special needs

• Coordinate and provide direction to paraprofessional staff supporting students with IEPs

• Maintain consistent communication with general and special education staff, paraprofessionals, related service providers, and parents regarding student progress and needs

• Support student integration in general education settings by collaborating with colleagues and adapting curriculum as necessary

• Maintain all required special education records in compliance with federal, state, and district guidelines, and provide documentation as requested by the Special Education Director

• Participate in required professional development, including CPI (Crisis Prevention Intervention) training, and maintain certification annually

• Attend additional trainings and meetings as assigned by the supervisor

• Perform other duties as assigned to support the needs of the school and the students

QUALIFICATIONS:

• Valid Michigan Teaching Certificate K-12; Preference for ASD
• Certification in Special Education (K-12) with an in-depth understanding of Universal Strategies; including ASD strategies, best practices and behavior interventions
• Ability to utilize district technology and work to maintain proficiency
• Demonstrate physical stamina necessary for assisting with lifting; repetitive stooping, squatting, bending, lifting (up to 40 lbs.), walking, kneeling and reaching while maintaining personal balance and stability; implementing behavior intervention plans and performing the essential job duties.

COMPENSATION BENEFITS: Pursuant to the BHEA bargaining unit agreement, the current salary range for this position is $50,336 - $114,793. Placement offer on the BHEA salary schedule is commensurate with experience, education, and qualifications.
