Dorchester County Public Schools is currently accepting applications for a School Social Worker opening for school year 2026-2027 within the Special Education Department. The School Social Worker will provide integral support to students and families by coordinating services, providing consultation related to regional and school-based behavioral programming, counseling students, participating in the DCPS Special Education Core Team structure and collaborating across departments to promote student success.

DUTIES:

  • Provides integrated, coordinated clinical case management services.
  • Assesses student and family dynamics as related to school success.
  • Participate in IEP, MTSS teaming and administrative meetings.
  • Provides consultative and crisis management services for DCPS as directed.
  • Maintains case documentation.
  • Advocates for children and families within the school setting and with outside agencies.
  • Collaborates with community agencies to foster student success.
  • Identifies and develops resources and services to meet community needs.
  • Facilitates effective delivery of on-site resources and services.
  • Facilitates social skills lessons for students using a social skills curriculum.
  • Participates in local/county organizations, representing the Community Agency School Services program goals and objectives.
  • Performs other duties as assigned by the Director of Special Education.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Master's Degree in Social Work or Social Welfare.
  • Certification as a Licensed Certified Social Worker (LCSW) or Licensed Certified Social Worker-Clinical (LCSW-C) pursuant to COMAR 13A.12.04.11.
  • Must have completed 3 semester hours or State-approved CPD credits in special education coursework pursuant to COMAR 13A.12.04.11.
  • Three (3) years' experience as an LCSW or LCSW-C., preferred
  • Demonstrated effective and accurate written and oral communication skills.
  • Advanced familiarity with various computer applications and software is essential.
  • Understanding of professional ethics and behavior.
  • Self-directed and have the ability to develop and implement programs.
  • Previous school social work experience.
  • Public speaking skills.
  • Experience in the mental health field.
  • Understanding of community resources.
