    Job Description

    At Webster Middle School, the Special Education Paraprofessional serves as a foundational pillar within our instructional system, acting as a vital bridge between rigorous academic goals and student accessibility. This role is not merely supportive; it is a necessity that ensures every student can navigate our educational environment with success. By providing targeted assistance, the paraprofessional enables the seamless integration of specialized support into the broader classroom setting. With an emphasis on supporting health needs, this specific Paraprofessional position ensures the health of students with more complex medical needs are accommodated with both skill and compassion.

    Commitment to a set schedule throughout the 2026-27 school year is essential. This reliability ensures that student support is uninterrupted, allowing the paraprofessional to remain deeply integrated into the daily instructional flow and the students'' routine. The schedule is 5.75 hours per day, 5 days per week (Monday - Friday). The start time is 7:00am and the end time is 1:15pm. 28.75 total hours per week. Interested candidates must be skilled at supporting/assisting students with disabilities so their physical, emotional and instructional needs are met and their disabilities can be effectively accommodated.

    Essential skills include the ability to build positive rapport with students; follow teacher directed behavior management techniques; assist students in adaptive classes when necessary; communicate with teachers on individual student success or concerns; assist in meeting possible health needs of the students; assist in supervision of students during nonacademic activities such as lunch, field trips and assemblies; and reinforce appropriate social and communication skills determined by the teacher. Applicants must be skilled at using diplomacy, friendliness, tact and firmness to help students reach the District''s high expectations.

    Core Responsibilities:

    Assistance with Health and Physical Needs: Providing support to meet the health needs of students is a core responsibility. This ensures that students with disabilities are effectively accommodated and that all health-related needs are met with professionalism and care.

    Physical Lifting and Transferring: Required to assist students with mobility needs, ensuring they can move safely between different learning environments and participate fully in the school day.

    Adaptive Class & Academic Assistance: Paraprofessional support is crucial for facilitating student participation in specialized curricula, ensuring that students can engage with material that has been modified to meet their specific learning needs.

    Social and Communication Skill Reinforcement: The paraprofessional reinforces appropriate interpersonal interactions as determined by the Special Education Teacher, helping students navigate social complexities and communicate their needs effectively.

    Nonacademic Supervision (Lunch, Field Trips, Assemblies): Extending support beyond the classroom ensures student safety and inclusion during busy school-wide events, fostering a sense of belonging in the school community.

    Teacher Collaboration: Paraprofessionals regularly communicate with Special Education Teachers regarding student successes and concerns. This collaborative exchange ensures a data-driven approach to student progress and allows for real-time adjustments to support strategies.

    Rapport Building: Establishing positive connections with students and staff to drive a sense of trust and support effective learning.

    Diplomacy, Friendliness, Tact, and Firmness: The balance of these traits allows the paraprofessional to uphold the District''s high expectations for student achievement and behavior while remaining supportive and approachable.

    Collaborative Spirit: Working effectively with colleagues across the school fosters a unified approach to student success and strengthens the professional community.
