Salary: Per ABEA Contract; Range: .5 FTE of $58,000 - $105,000
Position Summary:
Acton-Boxborough Regional High School is seeking a skilled and experienced special education teacher in the Horizons Program. Students receiving support through the Horizons program present with complex learning and cognitive profiles. Students may have primary identifications of communication impairment or specific learning disabilities, and may secondarily experience social-emotional and/or attentional challenges.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
- Plan effective specialized instruction and intervention for students on IEPs within the program
- Seek out inclusionary opportunities within the high school and community at large
- Administer formal diagnostic assessments and tests for students referred for three-year reevaluations of caseload students
- Administer ongoing progress monitoring, strategic monitoring and benchmark systems
- Schedule, prepare for, and chair Team meetings for caseload students
- Facilitate and teach academic courses based on student need
- Write comprehensive progress reports and IEPs
- Collaborate with general education and related service staff with respect to appropriate services, accommodations and modifications
- Provide ongoing positive communication with parents
- Collect and analyze student data against IEP goals
- Supervise and plan for educational assistants to support students throughout the day
- Assess for and facilitate transition planning
- Develop MCAS-Alt portfolios
Qualifications:
- Masters degree preferred
- Must have a Massachusetts licensure in Moderate or Intensive/Severe Special Needs 5-12 through the Department of Elementary & Secondary Education
- Must have demonstrated success with and be knowledgeable about current research-based interventions for students with disabilities
- Must possess demonstrated ability to develop positive behavior intervention plans
- Training, knowledge and expertise in transition assessment, pre-vocational and vocational skill development
- Excellent writing and communication skills required
