Summary & Purpose

Community High School District 218 is seeking a dedicated and student-centered Special Education Teacher to serve in a temporary maternity leave position. This educator will support students with disabilities through high-quality instruction, collaboration with multidisciplinary teams, and the implementation of individualized education plans. The ideal candidate will be flexible, collaborative, and committed to maintaining continuity of services and instruction during the leave period. This position is located at CHSD218's Adult Transition Program.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Instructional Support & Implementation

Provide high-quality, individualized instruction aligned to student IEP goals within a transition setting

Deliver specially designed instruction and implement accommodations/modifications based on student needs focusing on functional academics, daily living, community access, recreation and leisure, and vocational training

Maintain a positive and supportive learning environment that encourages student engagement and self-advocacy

Case Management & Progress Monitoring

Serve as the acting case manager for assigned students, including progress monitoring and timely communication with families and teams

Utilize data to monitor student progress and adjust instruction accordingly

Participate in IEP meetings, as appropriate, and support ongoing team collaboration

Collaboration & Continuity

Collaborate with general education teachers, paraprofessionals, related service providers, and administrators to support student success

Continue established classroom routines and instructional plans to ensure consistency for students during the leave period

Participate in team meetings and collaborate with team members as directed

QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED

Valid Illinois Professional Educator License (PEL) with an LBS1 endorsement

Strong understanding of IEP development, SMART goal writing, and progress monitoring practices

Ability to differentiate instruction and modify curriculum to meet student needs

Effective collaboration and communication skills with students, families, and staff

Strong organizational skills and the ability to maintain accurate records

PREFERRED

Experience working with transition aged students with a wide range of disabilities

COMPLIANCE LANGUAGE

All employees must adhere to district Board Policy, administrative procedures, and the applicable collective bargaining agreement. Employees in this role are subject to all relevant Illinois and federal laws governing the education and employment of individuals with disabilities, including the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA), Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act, and applicable Illinois Administrative Code. For certified staff, evaluation and employment practices comply with the Illinois Performance Evaluation Reform Act (PERA). All mandated training requirements, including CPDUs for license renewal, must be completed as directed.
