Special Education Teacher

The Secaucus Board of Education invites qualified and interested individuals to apply for the position of Anticipated Special Education Teacher.

QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS

  • Bachelor's degree from a 4-year accredited college/university.
  • New Jersey Department of Education Standard Certificate, Certificate of Eligibility (CE), or Certificate of Eligibility with Advanced Standing (CEAS) for Teacher of the Handicapped or Students with Disabilities.
  • New Jersey Department of Education Standard Certificate, Certificate of Eligibility (CE), or Certificate of Eligibility with Advanced Standing (CEAS) in Elementary Education
  • New Jersey Department of Education Standard Certificate, Certificate of Eligibility (CE) or Certificate of Eligibility with Advanced Standing (CEAS) with subject matter specialization a plus
  • Ability to read, write, speak, understand, and communicate in English sufficiently to perform the duties of the position.

BASIC FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Plans subject matter to be taught and align lessons to grade level content requirements and IEP goals and objectives.
  • Evaluate student progress on a regular basis and prepare progress reports.
  • Instruct students in citizenship, basic communications skills, and other general elements of the course of study common to all teachers, as specified in state law and administrative regulations and procedures of the district.
  • Provides individual, small, and/or large group instruction. Whenever appropriate, adapt the curriculum to the needs of students with varying academic abilities.
  • Instruct students in the proper care and use of textbooks, equipment, and materials.
  • Establishes and maintains standards of student behavior needed to provide an orderly and productive environment.
  • Selects and requisitions books, instructional materials, equipment, and aids, and maintains required inventory records.
  • Develops standards-based instructional plans and organizes class time to provide a balanced program of instruction.
  • Develops and maintains professional competence through district-provided in-service activities and self-directed professional growth activities.
  • Supervise out-of-classroom activities for students during the assigned working day as required.
  • Plans and coordinates the work of paraprofessionals.
  • Identifies students' needs and cooperates with other professional staff members in assessing and helping students solve health, attitude, and learning problems.
  • Communicate with parents and staff members on the students' progress and development.
  • Maintains basic attendance accounting as required.
  • Develops and participates in the sponsorship of student activities and faculty committees.
  • Acts as a resource to articulate appropriate aspects of his/her subject area or grade level.
  • Works to establish and maintain open lines of communication with students and their parents concerning academic and behavioral progress.
  • Orton-Gillingham Certified Teacher or Multi-Sensory Reading Teacher experience preferred

SALARY AND EMPLOYMENT

Salary Range: Current starting salary range is $62,600 -$70,110 as per the 2023-2026 SEA Contract

Employment Period: 2026-2027 School Year
